Where are you located? We are a foster-based rescue which means we don't have a specific facility. We mainly have foster homes throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
-
What experience do fosters need?Whether you're a first-time dog owner or very experienced, we are here to support you the whole way. All we ask is that you be open-minded and willing to learn. We have partnered with a local trainer and are able to offer our fosters his online course at a huge discount. This program is a great resource for you as a foster and will give you and the dog a great foundation. Which ultimately sets you both up for success.

What are my responsibilities as a foster?A fosters main responsibilities are to give the dog shelter, love and care until they are adopted. This can also include: Basic training (house training, crate training, basic commands, teaching boundaries) Transporting the dog to vet appointments or helping us coordinate transportation Being available for meet & greets with potential adopters Providing updates, pictures or videos and helping us with your foster dog's bio Tagging @fetchadogrescue for any uploads on your social media
-
How long does it take to find a home for a foster dog?On average it can take 1-3 months. We like to give the dog a chance to decompress so we are able to get to know their true personality better. Things like high quality photos, sending us updates, the foster's commitment to training the dog, promoting the dog to your own family, friends and social media can all help speed up the adoption process.
-
Do fosters need to have a car?Nope! Although having your own vehicle is an asset. Even if that means your family or friends that can help. If not, we can work out other ways to transport the dog around when needed.
-
What happens if I need to go away or travel? We ask that you give us as much notice as possible so we can find a sitter. If your family or friends offer to dog sit, please have them connect with us so we can approve them to temporarily foster while you're away
-
What happens with a Meet & Greet? When we have approved a potential adopter's application, then we will help connect the foster family to those adopters and set up the meet and greet. Typically, this meeting will happen at the foster's home. This is a great time for you to be able to answer some questions they may have or offer them advice. It's also when the adopter gets a chance to connect with the dog for the first time. If it goes well and you already have our pre-approval, the adopters can take the dog home that same day. If you have someone reach out to you wanting to meet the dog, please send them a link to our adoption application. We only offer meet and greets to pre-screened applicants.
-
What if the foster dog isn't a good fit for our home?Sometimes it just doesn't work out. If there are issues or you need advice, please reach out. We may ask that you continue to foster the dog until we can find another foster home. We would really rather avoid moving dogs from home to home as much as possible because it can add unnecessary stress to the dog.

I want to adopt my foster dog!Fostering can be a great way to find a dog that you connect with and is the missing piece to your family. If you decide that you just can't let them go, we will get to work on finalizing the adoption. Being an approved foster also means that you are approved to adopt with us. You will just have to sign the agreement and pay the adoption fee.

What costs are involved with fostering? We cover all necessary supplies for the foster dog while in your care. This includes but not limited to; food, harnesses, vetting and any professional training they may need. We provide collar, leash and a crate if the foster family needs those as well for the dog. Any extras such as toys, enrichment, treats, dog beds or clothing items are at the expense of the foster. Unless they are struggling with income and in that case, we will also provide toys, chews, etc.
